How To Jump Start Your Vehicle
The dead battery in your vehicle can cause inconvenience which is understandable. If you are at a place where it is difficult for any car boosting service to reach and jump-start your vehicle, you probably need to use someone else’s vehicle to bring your vehicle back to life. It is not difficult to carry out this process when you have all the required tools and knowledge. However, you need to be careful and observe the safety precautions. Here are simple steps that will help you boost your vehicle’s battery:
Position your vehicle
Before you start the process, determine the location of your vehicle’s battery and the battery of the vehicle providing the jump. Now, position the vehicle which is providing the jump so that cables can reach easily. It is advisable to position both vehicles close enough where the jumper cables can reach them with great ease. Also, make sure that the vehicle providing the jump is shut off.
Call roadside assistance service if there is any visible damage
It is important to thoroughly inspect the battery for any visible damage or leaks. If you observe any leaks or damage to the battery, it is advisable not to take the risk and call a nearby roadside assistance service to get your vehicle towed to an auto shop. The release of hydrogen gas can be seriously dangerous as it is flammable. Companies that provide roadside emergency services usually have the tools and skills to resolve minor problems.
Connect the cables
After making sure that the battery of your car is not damaged, it’s time to connect the cables. Connect the red clamp of the jumper cable to the red post and black clamp to the black post on the battery of the car providing the jump. Now, connect the cables to your vehicle’s battery on the respective posts. Make sure that clamps don’t come in contact with each other. To avoid sparks around the battery, you can connect the black clamp to your vehicle’s engine instead of the battery post.
Start the engine
First, start the engine of the vehicle providing the jump and keep it started for five to ten minutes before you shut it off so that your dead battery can get charged. After that, remove the black clamp and then the red clamp from the battery providing the jump. Now, remove the cables from your vehicle in a similar order. Turn your vehicle on and take it to an auto shop to see if you need to replace the battery or any other parts.
