Warning Signs That Your Car Needs New Tires

Vehicle tires can get damaged – they can wear out with time, and it is your responsibility to take care of them. Your car’s tires are the only direct point of contact with the road. Many drivers ignore checking the health of their tires leading to catastrophes. Damaged tires can cause an imbalance and accidents – you might become stranded on the roadside for hours with worn-out tires.

Many factors can affect the health of your vehicle tires, including weather or road conditions that can hamper their performance. A regular checkup requires you to know about some of the warning signs that can tell you to change your tires. This blog will highlight some of the warning signs that will help you know when you need to get your tires changed.

The Tread Depth

A tire’s tread provides good grip in dry and wet road conditions. It disperses water on the road. A recommended tread depth for an ideal tire should not fall below 1/16th of an inch.

If the tread depth of your tire is less than the value mentioned above, it is time to shop for a new tire. An inappropriate amount of tread depth can cause it to slip and cause hydroplaning, which can result in severe accidents.

Tread Wear Indicators

Small rubber hairs usually come out across the grooves and tread. These are the indicators of tread wear. If you see such indicators, it means that the tire is worn out and you need to replace it.

Punctures On The Sidewall

The condition of the sidewall can give a quick overview of your tire. A cut, blister, or even a small bulge can be dangerous for you. The sidewall of a tire is designed to bear the pressure on uneven road conditions. When you drive in harsh road conditions, it is the sidewall that holds the pressure and keeps your car balanced.

If there is any damage or cracks on the sidewall, it is time to change your tire. Though there are various remedies, none of them are fool-proof methods. The tires won’t absorb impact and therefore can be damaging for you and your car.

Air Leaks

Small air leaks are common and may not be a sign of much danger if you take the appropriate measures timely. If the PSI (Pound per Square Inch) drops by 1 in a week, it is not dangerous. However, if your PSI drops all of a sudden overnight, it means that there is something seriously wrong with your tire.

Run your hands around the tire to see their condition. Feel for any changes in the regular shape of the tire. If you feel anything, it is time to change your tire. You can also use an air compressor to fill up your tire with air and check for leaks.

Shaking Car

Shaking of a car can be due to many reasons, and worn-out tires is one of them. If you feel that your car is not running smoothly and shaking even on a smooth road, it is because there may be a problem with the interior of your tire.

Warranty Time

Every tire comes with a specific warranty. If you have been driving your car with the same tires for more than that warranty period, it is time to change your tires before any bad experience occurs.

TPMS Indicator

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) tells you if any of your tires are under-inflated. You can get it checked by your auto service provider. A TPMS displays the yellow symbol if there is a tire with low pressure. This means that you must change your tire or check its pressure level.
